Potato farming experience
Potato farming
There are so many crops that we farm in winters or in the January ,February month . For example peas, potato, beans and many more. One such crop is potato. Basically potato is a rabi crop. We will discuss here about many such crops which are rabi crops and with this I'll tell my personal experience of farming potato. Before farming potato we just harvested another crop named cabbage . After giving one to two months of gap we start farming potato.
Process of potato farming
- Preparation of soil with cow dung or rotten cow dung
- Lightening soil with tractor
- Cutting seeds from potatoes
- Sowing seeds with the help of pair of bulls
1. Preparation of soil
In this first step of preparation of soil, we in the starting used cow dung as the main nutrition source for the soil and to promote organic farming. More than this using rotten cow dung is the best for the soil because it has many good warms in it which further helps soil in maintaining its nutritional strength without any harmful chemicals. This step is the most important step in any kind of farming.
2. lightening soil
This step the second most important step. This step involves tractor or pair of bulls. We did this step with the help of tractor. Using tractor soil got perfectly mixed with dung and extra weed is also got removed from this. This step prepares soil for the next step sowing of seeds. If we want seeds to grow perfectly then we should definitely go for this step of cropping.
3. Cutting seeds from potatoes
Before this we need to find out and separate potatoes which can produce more potatoes further . Then we use those potatoes as seed . After this we start cutting seeds such a way that it won't cut the seeded part of the vegetable. From one potato we can make minimum two seeds or maximum five to sex seeds.
4. Sowing seeds
This step can be done by three ways :-
Using hand tools called khuntoo.
Using machines
Using traditional method with the help of pair of bulls.
We performed this step with the help of bulls because it is fast and natural. This not only saves our time but is very environment friendly as well. Still I have another reason why I love this way because it connects me with my roots and reminds me from where all these things started, makes my mind more peaceful.
Conclusion
This whole process that I elaborated here is not done in plain Ares like Punjab and Haryana. I belong to mountains then it's obvious that I have been talking about farming in hilly region. In whatever region farming is being done we should do this in such a way that it won't damage environment. Using traditional methods are not so easy and very time consuming compared with current methods but these modern methods should not be made so that it would damage environment and the quality of crops because ultimately it leads to health issues weither environmental or physical and mental.
